What Is SERRAPEPTASE?

Supplement

Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme derived from the bacteria Serratia marcescens, originally found in the digestive system of silkworms. It works by breaking down proteins, fibrin, and biofilms, exhibiting anti-inflammatory, anti-edemic, fibrinolytic, and analgesic properties. Primarily used for reducing inflammation, swelling, pain, and breaking down scar tissue in various therapeutic applications.

SERRAPEPTASE User Reviews & Experiences

72% Positive

*Based on large scale analysis of publicly available user experiences

Users report predominantly positive experiences with serrapeptase, particularly for reducing inflammation, breaking down scar tissue, and relieving chronic pain. While some report unexpected side effects or interactions with fillers, the majority find it effective for musculoskeletal issues, sinusitis, and post-surgical recovery.

SERRAPEPTASE Benefits, Dosage & Side Effects

Effects
  • Scar Tissue Breakdown: Users report significant improvement in mobility and reduction of scar tissue from old injuries, especially when combined with stretching and physical therapy
  • Respiratory Relief: Multiple users experienced dramatic improvement in breathing issues, sinus congestion, and chronic sinusitis, with some reporting complete resolution after years of suffering
  • Pain and Inflammation Reduction: Consistent reports of reduced joint pain, swelling, and inflammation, particularly for ankle injuries, knee issues, and post-surgical recovery
  • Unexpected Reactions: Some users experienced facial spasms, filler breakdown, or inflammatory responses, suggesting powerful proteolytic activity that may affect various tissues
Effectiveness
  • Chronic Conditions: Particularly effective for long-standing scar tissue, chronic sinusitis (reported 10-year sufferers finding relief), and post-surgical adhesions
  • Onset Time: Effects typically noticed within 1-3 days for acute issues, with chronic conditions showing improvement after 1-2 weeks of consistent use
  • Combination Therapy: Often more effective when combined with nattokinase, bromelain, or curcumin for enhanced anti-inflammatory and fibrinolytic effects
  • Individual Variation: Effectiveness varies significantly between users, with some experiencing dramatic results while others see minimal benefit, suggesting individual biochemistry plays a role
Dosage & Administration
  • Standard Anti-Inflammatory: 80,000-120,000 SPU once daily on empty stomach, typically 30-40 minutes before eating
  • Acute Conditions: Higher doses of 120,000-250,000 SPU daily for short-term use (ankle sprains, post-surgical swelling)
  • Chronic Use: 100,000-120,000 SPU daily for ongoing conditions like sinusitis or scar tissue, with some users taking 5 days on, 2 days off
  • Timing Critical: Must be taken on empty stomach (at least 30 minutes before food) for systemic effects rather than digestive action
Side Effects
  • Filler Dissolution: Multiple reports of serrapeptase breaking down hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, causing unexpected facial changes
  • Inflammatory Release: Some users experience temporary worsening of symptoms, facial twitching, or spasms, possibly from biofilm disruption and toxin release
  • Coordination Issues: One user reported significant disruption to hand-eye coordination when taking serrapeptase regularly
  • Generally Well-Tolerated: Most users report no significant side effects when taking appropriate doses, with safety profile considered better than NSAIDs
Availability & Sourcing
  • Common Brands: quality brands, Physician's Naturals, and Serrakor NK (combination with nattokinase) frequently mentioned as reliable sources
  • Dosage Variation: Available in wide range of potencies from 40,000 to 250,000 SPU, requiring careful attention to unit strength when comparing products
  • Quality Concerns: Users emphasize importance of enteric-coated formulations to survive stomach acid and reach systemic circulation
