What Is GHK-CU?

GHK-Cu (Copper peptide) is a naturally occurring tripeptide with copper bound to it. It promotes wound healing, collagen synthesis, and has anti-aging properties. Used topically for skin rejuvenation and systemically for tissue repair.

This is a peptide. Most peptides are research chemicals requiring reconstitution and subcutaneous injection. Purity and storage conditions matter.

What the Research Shows

Research shows GHK-Cu increases extracellular matrix accumulation in wounds, stimulates MMP-2 expression promoting tissue remodeling, and stimulates glycosaminoglycan synthesis. It also shows potential as a therapeutic agent against age-associated neurodegeneration and reduces cigarette smoke-induced emphysema by reducing oxidative stress. Topical application is the lower-risk entry point with the most direct evidence for skin rejuvenation. The injectable route is discussed in community forums for broader anti-aging effects, but the evidence for systemic benefits is extrapolated from gene expression data, not from clinical outcomes. Copper delivery means it should not be combined with high-dose zinc supplementation at the same time of day, as they compete for absorption.

Who Should Be Cautious

People with Wilson’s disease (copper accumulation disorder) should avoid GHK-Cu entirely. Those with active infections should wait, as the peptide’s effects on immune cell migration could theoretically complicate pathogen clearance.

The gene expression studies showing GHK-Cu affecting hundreds of pathways are intriguing but conducted primarily in cell culture. The in vivo human gene expression response to standard doses has not been comprehensively mapped.
